John 02:06-11 A Prophet like Moses – Water Turned into Another Substance

There is a prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19 that God would raise up a prophet like Moses – that prophecy was fulfilled by Jesus. In today’s parallel, Jesus and Moses both turned water into another substance. Moses turned water into blood, all the fish in the Nile died, everyone was loathe to drink from the Nile and Pharaoh did not believe. Jesus turned water into wine which everyone could enjoy and his disciples believed. In this parallel, the water turned to blood represents the warning of judgment in the Old Testament and the water turned to wine represents the hope of grace in the New Testament.

Exodus 7:17-18 Thus says the LORD, "By this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold, I will strike the water that is in the Nile with the rod that is in my hand, and it shall be turned to blood, 18 and the fish in the Nile shall die, and the Nile shall become foul, and the Egyptians will loathe to drink water from the Nile."

John 2:6-11 Now six stone jars were standing there, according to the manner for purification of the Jews, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it had come from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man sets out the good wine first; and, when the guests have drunk freely, the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

There are many signs and wonders that Jesus did that were like those done by Moses – can you find them? Do you know what religion claims that someone else fulfilled the prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19? The other religion does not have a parallel for turning water into another substance.

John 01:29-34 A Prophet like Moses – “The Herald”

A Prophet like Moses – “The Herald”

There is a prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19 that God would raise up a prophet like Moses – that prophecy was fulfilled by Jesus.

In today’s parallel, Jesus and Moses both had a prophet appointed by God as their herald to speak to the people about them. Aaron was appointed to speak to the people about Moses and John the Baptist was appointed to speak to the people about Jesus. Aaron was glad when he saw Moses and John the Baptist was glad when he saw Jesus. Moses was as God to Aaron and Jesus was God to John the Baptist. Aaron was slightly older than Moses and John the Baptist was slightly older than Jesus. Both Aaron and John the Baptist were from the tribe of Levi.

Exodus 4:14-16 "Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well; and behold, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you he will be glad in his heart. 15 And you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do. 16 He shall speak for you to the people; and he shall be a mouth for you, and you shall be to him as God.

John 01:29-34 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he for whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing in water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John bore witness, “I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. 33 I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

There are many signs and wonders that Jesus did that were like those done by Moses – can you find them? Do you know what religion claims that someone else fulfilled the prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19? The other religion does not have a parallel for the prophetic herald for the prophet that they claim was like Moses.

A Prophet like Moses – “The Wise Men”

There is a prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19 that God would raise up a prophet like Moses – that prophecy was fulfilled by Jesus.

In today’s parallel, the ruling authority summoned wise men to learn more about the signs concerning Jesus and Moses

Exodus 7:11 Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men…
Matthew 2:7 Then Herod called the wise men…

There are many signs and wonders that Jesus did that were like those done by Moses – can you find them? Do you know what religion claims that someone else fulfilled the prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19?

A Prophet like Moses – “The Slaughter of the Innocents”

At the time when Moses and Jesus were born, the ruler of the country ordered the killing of all the male infants in the region.

Exodus 1:22 Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, "Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live."

Matthew 2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, was in a furious rage. And he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all its region who were two years old or under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.

There are many signs and wonders that Jesus did that were like those done by Moses – can you find them? It is important that you know that Jesus fulfilled the prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19 so that you aren’t deceived into thinking it was someone else. Do you know what religion claims that someone else fulfilled the prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19?

A prophet like Moses – “Those who were seeking your life are dead”

Moses and Jesus returned to their native land after a message from the Lord indicated that the men who were seeking their lives were dead.

Exodus 4:19 And the LORD said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt; for all the men who were seeking your life are dead."

Matthew 2:19 But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20 saying, “Rise, take the young child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child’s life are dead.” 21 And he rose and took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel.

Matthew 13-14 So was fulfilled…?

In Matthew chapters 13-14, Jesus spoke in parables; miraculously fed bread to a multitude; walked across a body of water as if it was dry land. We find those same things mentioned in Psalms 78 and according to Matthew 13:35 Jesus was fulfilling prophecy.

So what prophecy was Jesus fulfilling when he fed the multitude and when he walked across the water?...Since Moses did the same things according to Psalm 78, Jesus was fulfilling the prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19, "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brethren -- him you shall heed -- 16 just as you desired of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, `Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, or see this great fire any more, lest I die.' 17 And the LORD said to me, `They have rightly said all that they have spoken. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brethren; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19 And whoever will not give heed to my words which he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.

The parallels are below:
Psalm 78:13 He divided the sea and let them pass through it, and made the waters stand like a heap.
Matthew 14:29 Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus.

Psalm 78:22 because they had no faith in God, and did not trust his saving power. 23 Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven; 24 and he rained down upon them manna to eat, and gave them the grain of heaven. 25 Man ate of the bread of the angels; he sent them food in abundance.
Matthew 14:15 When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it is already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” 16 [Jesus] said, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” 17 They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” 18 He said, “Bring them here to me.” 19 Then he commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples. And the disciples gave them to the multitudes. 20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.

There are many signs and wonders that Jesus did that were like those done by Moses – can you find some of the other ones? It is important that you know that Jesus fulfilled the prophecy in Deuteronomy 18:15-19 so that you aren’t deceived into thinking it was someone else. Luke 2:34 - Will you Fall or Rise?

In Luke 2:34, Simeon said to Mary, Jesus’ mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel.

Satan’s plan was for Jesus to “fall” from the pinnacle of the temple. In Luke 4:9, Satan set Jesus on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are God’s Son, throw yourself down from here.”

God’s plan was for Jesus to rise from the tomb. Acts 13:30 But God raised him from the dead.

Will you fall?
1Peter 02:07-08, “The very stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,” 8 and, “A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.”

Or will you rise?
1Thessalonians 4:16 “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

John 01:26 Do you know the One?

In John 1:26 John answered, “I baptize with water; there has stood One among you whom you do not know.

In Matthew 28:5, the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for he has risen {“Stood up” (עמד)} as he said.

The Hebrew word for “stood” (עמד) pronounced amad - also means “rise.”

Before Jesus’ baptism many people who stood next to Jesus did not know Him. After Jesus stood up from the grave many people came to know Him. After all when you light a lamp you don’t put it under a basket, but stand it up. And it gives light to all in the house.

*Matthew 28:5 Do not be Afraid

In Matthew 28:5 when the women were standing in front of the door to the open tomb, the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.”

When the doors of the tombs are opened don’t you want to hear, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified?”
