In John 8:56-57,
Jesus is referring to the time when as the preincarnate Christ he met Abraham -
and Abraham and Sarah fixed a dinner for Him (Genesis ch 18). John 8:56 “Your
father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was glad.” 57 The Jews
then said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?”
58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”
Genesis 18:1 And
the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his
tent in the heat of the day.
In Genesis 18:1 the
word “LORD” is Jehovah (יְהוָ֔ה ).
Verses 18:10, 13,
14, 17, 19, 20, 22, 26 also use the term Jehovah.
In Genesis 18:25
Abraham refers to the individual that he is talking to as …the Judge of all the
earth…
Moreover, Abraham
met an individual that the Biblical text identifies as Jehovah. The individual
that he met ate food that Abraham and Sarah prepared. Abraham referred to the
individual as the Judge of all the earth.
