Man shall not live by bread alone

"It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" - Matthew 4:4

 

If you only have bread then you are alone.

If you have the Word then you are with God.

Matthew 04:04… “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”

These words were spoken by Jesus in response to the first temptation by Satan. Jesus quoted a portion of Deuteronomy 8:3 – “And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but that man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.” All three of Jesus’ responses to the temptations by Satan were quotations from Deuteronomy.
