In the Gospels, we are informed that the apostles did not believe the women when they told them that they had seen the risen Christ. According to the Gospel Narrative the following occurred:
When the ladies came to the apostles, they told how they
had seen the angels, and how Jesus was risen from death to life. And they asked
how they had seen it. And they answered - some said they saw an angel stand,
and some said they saw two angels standing: and so they believed them not and
held their words as but trifle. [From Section 106 of The Gospel Narrative: The
Oldest Written Account of Jesus Christ]

Matthew 28:9 And behold, Jesus met them and said,
“Greetings!” And they came to him and took hold of his feet and worshipped him.
10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to
Galilee. And there they will see me.”
Luke 24:9 Then they returned from the tomb and told all
these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene,
Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them – they told
this to the apostles. 11 But these words seemed to them like idle tales, and
they did not believe them.
