One day everyone
will want to hear – “Your sins are forgiven…RISE!”
In the passage
below...
The four men
bringing the paralytic to Jesus are similar to the four gospels bringing people
to the words of Jesus.
The opening in the
roof is similar to a tomb being opened.
The paralytic is
similar to those who have “fallen asleep.”
The paralytic
coming into Jesus’ presence is similar to the Day of Judgment.
The paralytic’s
sins being forgiven are similar to the Last Judgment.
The paralytic
rising and walking is similar to the Resurrection.
Hopefully, One Day
we will hear Jesus speak the same words to us that he once spoke to the
paralytic - “Your sins are forgiven…RISE!”
J. Clontz – Editor of the Comprehensive New Testament
1 And when he entered Capernaum after some
days, it was heard that he was home. 2 And many gathered together, so that
there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And he
preached the word to them. 3 Then they came, bringing to him a paralytic
carried by four men. 4 And when they could not bring the man to him because of
the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above him. And when they had broken
through, they let down the pallet where the paralytic was lying. 5 When Jesus
saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” 6 Now
some of the scribes were sitting there, reasoning in their hearts, 7 “Why does
this man speak like this? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God
alone?” 8 And immediately, when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they
reasoned thus within themselves, he said to them, “Why do you reason about
these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your
sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, and take up your pallet and walk’? 10 But
that you may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth” –
he said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go
home.” 12 And he rose, and immediately took up the pallet and went out in front
of them all; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never
saw anything like this!”
