In the foreshadowing of the virgin birth, Mary
is foreshadowed by Rebekah. Both Mary and Rebekah were virgins who were
betrothed to a man. In Genesis 24:16 the word for virgin is (בְּתוּלָה:) pronounced “betullah” which definitively
means virgin and not maiden or young girl.
Luke 1:27 … a
virgin betrothed to a man…
Genesis 24:16 The
maiden was very fair to look upon, a virgin, whom no man had known…
Genesis 24:51
Behold, Rebekah is before you, take her and go, and let her be the wife of your
master's son, as the LORD has spoken."
